Saturday, January 4, 1902 FIRST MEETING FOR 1902
The first meeting of the city council for
the year 1902 took place last night, when Mayor Farley and all the
councilmen, save C. W. Dietzel,
G. F. Guinther made an offer to the
council saying that he would see that the rock pile on west Ninth street
was removed if the city would
The residents of the Garrison petitioned the city to furnish them electric lights. The communication was laid on the table until the electric power is brought into the city and the matter is considered more thoroughly, which will be at the next meeting. Another petition was from E. F. Sharp, and others, asking for a sewer on Federal street. Moved and carried that the council proceed to put in the same. It was reported to the council that the contract
for the Court street sewer had been completed, and a warrant was drawn
in favor of Sexton &
A very important matter was brought up when the motion was made to hire men to keep crosswalks clean. It was, however, deemed advisable to place gravel on the streets, and a committee, composed of Councilmen Wilson, Wakefield and Lemke, was appointed to obtain gravel. Bills Allowed:

street at 11:00 a.m., and

streets, Rev. J. M Alexander minister – Preaching at 11:00 a.m.
and 7:30 p.m.; Sunday school 10:00 a.m.;
St. Peter’s Church, corner Third and
Lincoln – High mass will be celebrated by Rev. A. Bronsgeest at
10:30. The choir will render the
Methodist Episcopal Church – Corner
Fifth and Washington, Rev. W. Skipworth pastor – Morning service
at 11 o’clock; evening 7:30; Sunday
Congregational Church – corner Fifth
and Court streets. Rev. D. V. Poling, pastor. Morning service at
11 o’clock; evening at 7:30; Sunday school 12:30. Morning subject, “The
Best Investment” – a New Year’s Meditation. Communion service at the close
of the morning sermon. Music in the morning by a choir of mixed voices.
Special number by the male chorus in the evening.
