Friday August 14, 1931 Miss Crandall Becomes Bride at Lovely Ceremony --One of the loveliest of the summer weddings occurred Tuesday evening at eight-thirty o'clock when Miss Thelma Crandall, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. H. N. Crandall, became the bride of Edward Schenk, son of J.E. Schenk of Gresham. The ceremony which was held in the Crandall home on West 11th St., took place before an improvised altar which was banked with four huge baskets of heavy-headed golden glow, white gladioli and baby's breath. Light fell from a wrought iron candelabra where five yellow candles were burning. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, made a lovely picture in a wedding gown of ivory-toned taffeta, made on princess lines with a fitted bodice, tiny cap sleeves and a double peplum. Her wedding veil, which was fastened with a wreath of orange clossoms, and the fragile lace handkerchief which she carried, were those worn by her mother at Mrs. Crandall's wedding 30 years ago. Her bridal [bouquet] was of yellow roses and white sweet peas. Miss Marjorie Crandall, her sister's only attendant, was charming in a floor-length flowered chiffon of leaf green which was belted and trimmed by bows of deep yellow velvet. She carried an arm bouquet of pastel-shaded sweet peas. Mrs. Crandall, mother of the bride also wore a flowered chiffon dress, made with cape sleeves, cowl neck and rhinestone accessories. T.W. Hargeaves of Portland acted as best man. Preceding the service, Mrs. H.R. Fancher played the wedding march from Mendelssohn and accompanied Charles Roth and John Broer who sang "At Dawning" and a tenor solo by Charles Roth, "For You Alone." Pastor of the Baptist church officiated. A reception followed the wedding ceremony.
Mrs. Francher poured. Doris Gardinier and Irma Hoech
assisted. The refreshment table was decked with a huge three-tiered
wedding cake which was surrounded with a wreath of tulle
Following the reception, the young couple left for Berkeley, Calif., where they will make their home for the winter, as Mr. Schenk has a teaching fellowship in geology at the University of California. For her going away outfit, Mrs. Schenk wore an ensemble of royal blue with black accessories. Out of town guests were: J.E. Schenk of Gresham, father of the bride-groom, Mrs. C.E. Zurcher, Mr and Mrs Casper Huber, all of Gresham; Mr and Mrs J.F. Schenk of Ridgefield, Wash., Miss Marian Needham of Corvallis and Mr and Mrs. Walter Colby of Hood River.
