TYGH RIDGE

Alvin Kirkham made a business trip to The Dalles Friday.
  Mr and Mrs James Underhill were Dufur visitors Tuesday.
  Glen Cushing was in Dufur Saturday evening.
  Mrs. Frank Ball and daughter spent the week-end with Mrs. Victoria Ball.
  Gus Anderson was in The Dalles on business last week-end.

Car Strikes Horse on Highway
  Johnnie Ball, who was on his way to The Dalles, Wednesday evening of last week, ran up on a bunch of horses on the bridge at the Arthur Underhill ranch near Dufur.  One of the horses was lying on the bridge and Mr. Ball not being able to miss the horse, wrecked his car.  The horse was also badly hurt.
  Albert Limmeroth recently spent several days at Jefferson with his daughter, Mrs. John Hoffley.
   Harvey McAllister has been hauling wheat from the ridge to The Dalles.
  Elmer Swett made several business trips to Dufur last week.
  Sid Baker was a business caller at the Thomas Jones ranch Thursday.
  Earl and Kenneth Frazer, accompanied by Jack Tidyman and A.C. Morse, motored to The Dalles the last of the week
  Orrin Moore was a Dufur business visitor Wednesday evening.
  Mrs Preston Lindhorst and son and Leroy Gardner accompanied Mrs Judd Bourland to the Henry Lindhorst home Tuesday.
  Mrs Dorothy Spagle, who has been with her mother, Mrs. Edith Beck, at the W.C. Hanna ranch here for some time, recently left for Portland.
  Mrs. Alice Kirkham and son, Alvin, and Miss Ruby Kirkham were shopping in The Dalles Saturday.
  Dewey Peasley returned to the Henry Lindorst home the last of the week from here.
  Miss Dorothy Drake, the daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Drake, spent several days last week with Miss Della Drake.
  Clarence Gardner and two sons accompanied by Joe Powell were callers at the George Sigman ranch Saturday afternoon.
  Joe McMurry was on the Ridge on business one day last week   Mr and Mrs Harold Heisler of Portland were visiting friends and relatives
her Saturday and Sunday.
  Miss Maxine Jones was visiting with Miss Della Drake Saturday.
  Miss Mayme Kirkham spent Saturday with Mrs. Earl Hopkins.
  Mrs Frances Ball, who spent several days with relative here, returned to her home in Portland the first of the week.
  Earl Frazer was a caller at the C.F. Gardner ranch Saturday morning.
  H.C. Sweet was visiting at the E.J. Swett home several days last week.
  Mr and Mrs Arthur Busch of Portland were visiting at the Henry Busch home Saturday.
  A.C. Morse, Joe Powell, Judd Bourland and Clarence Gardner were at the Mel Sigman ranch one day last week on business.
  Mr and Mrs Bud Drake and daughter Della, were in The Dalles Friday.
  Miss Helen Hillgen has been with Mrs. Fred Hillgen for some time.
  Mrs; Jack Rothery was a Dufur visitor Saturday.
  Mrs Frank Ball and her mother, Mrs Janie Gardner, were in The Dalles one day last week.
  Miss Ruth Cole is with Mrs Elmer Swett this week while the threshers are there.
  Miss Maxine Jones and Miss Dell Drake were callers at the Charles Wilhelm home Saturday.  Miss Edna Wilhelm accompanied them home.
  Wren Hogue was visiting relative here the last of the week.
  Mr and Mrs Walter Fargher and family were Dufur visitors Sunday afternoon.
  Mrs Clarence Gardner and children and Mrs Judd Bourland and daughter were in Dufur Monday morning.
  Mac Parson was on the Ridge Sunday from Dufur.
  Gus Anderson had an accident with his car one day last week.  He burned out the connecting rod on his Ford near the Nansene ranch.
  Mr and Mrs Tom Wilson and Mrs Frances Ball motored to The Dalles Sunday morning.
  Mrs Vera Butler was visiting with her mother, Mrs. Jim Moore, in Dufur the last of the week.
  There are several farmers in this vicinity who are still threshing this week.  Among them are Angus McLeod, Frank Ball, Elmer Sweet, Ellis Jones, George Bourland and Roy Hulse.
  Mr and Mrs Thomas Jones and daughters were visiting friends and relatives here Sunday.
  Relatives of Mr and Mrs Walt Hillgen arrived at the Hillgen home Sunday from the valley.
  Mr and Mrs Harold Heisler and Mr and Mrs Charles Heisler were guests at the George Bourland home Sunday evening.
  Harvey McMurry, who has been hauling wheat with G.L. Bourland, returned to Dufur last week-end.
  Miss Genevieve Hillgen helped Mrs Tom Wilson cook for the threshers the first of this week.
  Mr and Mrs Ned Underhill motored to Portland Monday returning home Tuesday.
  Joe McMurry, who has been sewing sacks on the O.H. Russell threshing machine, returned home the first of the week.
  Preston Linhorse was at Nansene Sunday.
  Mr and Mrs Owen Jones were visiting at their ranch here Tuesday.
  Ed Ward, the brother of Mrs. Jack Rothery, motored up from the valley the last of the week.  On his return home his nieces accompanied him for a short visit.
  Sid Baker made a business trip to The Dalles Monday afternoon.

Miss Williams Honored With Miscellaneous Shower
   In compliment to Miss Helen Williams, whose marriage to Charles Evans Taft of Hood River will take place on September 4, Mrs. R.D. Maxon, Miss Edna Lois Maxon, and Mrs. Gus Mattes entertained at the Maxon home Wednesday evening with a bouffet supper.

Mrs. Carlton Williams, mother of the bride-elect, and Mrs. Leroy Taft of Hood River presided at the dining table, which was charmingly decorated
with tall tapers and mult-colored flowers.

The affair took the form of a miscellaneous shower for Miss Williams.  A long silver cord was wound through the house and after following it through the porch, the lawn, upstairs and down, Miss Williams discovered a huge tray laden with gifts.

Bridge formed the diversion of the evening with five tables in play.

The guests were: Miss Williams, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Taft, Mrs Lay A. Carisle, Mrs Edwin Phetteplace, Mrs. Ivan Roberts, Mrs. Wilton Roberts, Mrs. Clarence Ellis, and the Misses Leona Comini, Ruthe Pepper, Geraldine McGrath, Mary Condon, Joan Stadelman, Lorraine Pierce, Christine Rice, Doris Gardiner, Irene Hoech, Irma Hoech, and Carol Hurlburt.

Miss Lenore Woodcock was a caller in Tygh Valley Tuesday.
  Mrs. Bailes Bourland, accompanied by her sisters, Mrs. Paul Benedict and Mrs. Pearl Wright went to the mountains near Mt. Adams Tuesday remaining until Thursday picking huchkleberries.
   Mike Urban and daughter, Etta, went to Aurora, Tuesday, where they visited with relatives. 
   Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Light of Tangent, Mrs. P.O. Light and daughter Manilla, of McMinnville and Mr. and Mrs. Parks, who are visitors in Oregon
from Idaho, visited here at the home of Mr. and Mr. Paul Light from Tuesday until Thursday.
   Mike and Evelyn Miller were here from Tygh Valley Tuesday.  Everlyn Miller remained at the home of her sister, Mrs. Oscar Johnson.
  Mr and Mrs. W.H. Johnson visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Nelson at Smock Wednesday.
   Frank Driver Jr., of Portland arrived here Wednesday for a short visit with his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Driver.
  Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Woodcock and daughter, Mrs. W.E. Hunt Jr. were shopping in The Dalles Wednesday.
   Mr. and Mrs. P.B. Driver and son Brenton and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wharton and son John Robert left here early Wednesday morning for a trip across the McKenzie Pass and to the coast, where they plan to spend a week.
   Lane Johnson went to Portland to visit with his sister, Miss Hazel, who is attending business college there.
   John Conroy was through here Thursday en route to the Wamic Lumber company mill after lumber.
   Mrs. Rachel Driver and Mrs. Mary Gibson spend Thursday afternoon at Tygh Valley visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kistner.
   Miss Nadine Harvey and Vernon Woodcock wre callers in Maupin Thursday.
   A.F. Berhagen was a business caller at Tygh Valley Thursday.
   Norma Brittain visited here last week at the home of her grandmother, Mrs. R.A. Driver.
   James Zumwalt has charge of the store during the absence of Mr. and Mrs. Wharton.
   Forest Urban went to Tygh Valley Thursday
   Mr. and Mrs. Lee Kennedy, Mrs. Bettie Palmateer, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Morrow and daughter Helen, Bertha Muller and Bill Zumwalt went to Ollala Lake Thursday remaining there until Monday.
   Mr and Mrs Chas Crabtree were Tygh Valley callers Thursday evening.
   Mrs Herman Gesh and Mrs. Bill Willard and children were Maupin visitors Sunday.
   Mr and Mrs John Eubanks, Mr and Mrs J E Woodcock and family, Mr and Mrs F M Driver and Frank Driver Jr attended the Harman reunion at Bear Springs Sunday.  Nearly a hundred friends and relatives were present
   Mrs Louis Woodside and children of Juniper Flat visited Mrs Woodside's parents, Mr. and Mres. Bruce Driver here Sunday.
   Jack Savage was a Dufur caller Sunday
   Mr and Mrs Chas Crabtree spent Sunday at Bear Springs visiting their daughter, Mrs. Jack Slavens.  Mrs Crabtree stayed for a few days visit.
   Mr and Mrs J D Campbell were Dalles visitors Friday.
   Friday evening while cranking a Ford, Carl Wrenn broke his right arm just above the wrist.  He was taken to Dr Elwood to have the bone set.
   Thorburn Hansen, son of Mr and Mrs Kirk Hansen, fell from a horse Saturday morning and broke his arm.
   Eldon and Verl Fraley of The Dalles visited at the W.T. Norval home Friday.
   Mr and Mrs Frank Magill and daughter Gertrude, and Mr and Mrs Harry Ross spent Sunday at Post Camp.
   Guy Brittan and family moved to Smock to harvest their wheat crop there. 
   Mr and Mrs Winifred Gibson of Bend spent the week-end at the W.H. Johnson home.  They were accompanied on their return by Mrs Gibson's
mother, Mrs. Mary Gibson, who has spent some time here visiting relatives.
   George Wing and family, who have spent several months at Ashland, returned to their home here Saturday.
   Mr and Mrs W M Driver and son, Lyle went to the mountains Monday to get huckleberries.
   Mrs Harry Miller of Tygh Valley was here a short time Monday.  Evalyne Miller accompanied her home for a visit.
   Mrs Flora Savage left last week for Yakima, where she is visiting relatives.
   Tom Swett and nephew of Dufur spent Sunday fishing at Boulder Lake.
   Dr. Elwood was called here Thursday to see the small daughter of Bill Willard.
   W E Woodcock was a Maupin visitor Friday.
   Jim Zumwalt, Mr and Mrs W E Hunt Jr., Leslie and Lenore Woodcock and Henry Wing were among those who attended the dance at Shady Brook Saturday night.
   Harry Sims returned to his home Saturday after being employed at the Wamic Lumber company mill during the spring and summer.
   Mrs. W E Hunt Jr and Miss Lenore Woodcock were Dalles callers Monday.
   Miss Olga Abbott of Wapinitia spent Sunday night at the J E Woodcock home on Smock.
   Bertha Muller of Tygh Valley was here Monday
   Mr and Mrs George Nelson visited Sunday at Simnasho.
   Mr and Mrs. Harry Ayers and Mr and Mrs George Ayers and children came up from the Valley and visited their parents on Smock last week.
   Mrs Cecil Mayfield, Alfred Swails and Carl Wrenn were Maupin visitors Saturday night.
   Word was received here recently of the marriage of George Craft to Miss Alta Irene DeShazer of Hawaii.  Mr. Craft will be remembered by the younger folks as having attended school both here and at Smock, where his family lived for a number of years.  Mr. Craft is a graduate of Oregon State College, majoring in pharmacy.  The young couple will make their home in Wailuku, Hawaii.
   George Nelson received word Monday of the death of his father.  They drove to Portland Monday evening accompanied by Leo Nelson.
   Mr and Mrs Harry Lewis and family visited Sunday at their daughter's home on Juniper Flat.
   Mrs Friend LuCore of Maupin visited with her parents, Mr and Mrs S.G. Ledford of Smock last week.
   Jim Zumwalt and Vernie Wing went to The Dalles Sunday to attend a show.
   Elwood Smith and Nyl Hill went to Mollala Satruday returning Sunday. While there, they they visited Mr. Smith's mother, Mrs. Claude Jones and family.
   Mr and Mrs E. Ashley and two daughters spent Saturday and Sunday in the mountains near Swim picking huckleberries.
