The Dalles Chronicle, 1942
Local Couple Married at Longview, Washington
   Miss Verla L. Adkisson of The Dalles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willard E. Adkisson of Prineville and First Sergeant  James L. Evans of Fort Lewis,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Evans of this city, were married at Longview,Wash., yesterday afternoon, January 8, at 1:30 o'clock.
   The bride wore an attractive turquoise street dress, with brown accessories and a corsage of red roses.  Miss Stella Bourland of The Dalles
and William Zumwalt of Fort Lewis were the only attendants.  Both the bride and groom were graduates from The Dalles high school with the class of 1940.  Mr. Evans also attended the University of Oregon and was affiliated with the sigma Nu fraternity.  Following a short honeymoon at Longview, where Sergeant Evans is stationed at present, the bride will return to her home here.

Recent Bride Honored At Informal Party
   Mrs. Lloyd Evans was hostess last evening at a smartly arranged dessert supper, feting Mrs. James Evans (Verla Adkisson) recent bride of January 8.  Mrs. Loren Adkisson and Mrs. E.D. Roe of Seattle assisted.
   Those attending autographed tea towels and presented them to the honor guest.  Covers were placed for 16 persons including the Mesdames Harry Ragsdale, William Reiman, Mel Olmstead, Dan Petroff and the Misses Shella Bourland, Jean and June Saunders, Helen Brodersen, Louanna Grossmiller, Virginia Remington, Lenore Wisner, Shirley Creighton and Maxine Holcomb.

Miss Iona Miller And Otto Keil Marry

A wedding which is of interest to many Dalles folk will take place this Saturday evening at nine o'clock when Miss Iona Miller, daughter of Mrs.
Luella Miller of Goldendale, becomes the bride of Otto H. Keil.

Mr. Keil, who is a former resident of The Dalles, is now manager of the MacMarr store in Goldendale.

The ceremony will be held on the lawn of the bride's home with the Rev. R.C. Young of the Methodist church reading the service.  Mrs. William Cappel, sister of the bride, has been named as matron of honor.  The bridesmaids will be Miss Verna Coleman and Mrs. Franklin Miller.  Vernon Olsen is to be best man.

It has been planning to carry out the color motif in pink and white.  The bridesmaids will be gowned in similar frocks of pink organdy, tie-toe
length, tight as to bodice and full as to skirt.  The bride will wear a gown of heavy white crepe de chine, a long stand of pearls, white gloves and a floor length wedding veil of tulle.

The young couple place to make a trip to the Oregon beaches on their honeymoon.  The bride's going-away outfit is a navy blue and white
ensemble.  She will wear accessories to match.

Miscellaneous Shower Compliments Bride -  Complimenting  Miss Verona Adkisson, who yesterday became the bride of W. Stanley Coates Jr. of Tillamook, her aunt, Mrs. Ellwood Adkisson, and cousin, Mrs. Walter Morast, were co- hostesses Saturday afternoon at the Adkisson country home near Boyd.  There were 30 guests present.
   Miss Adkisson was given a heart-shaped book on the pages of which were written original verses giving the hiding places in the house and yard of
miscellaneous shower gifts.  The rooms were decorated attractively in pink and white garden flowers.  Games were the afternoon's diversions.
   At a later hour, refreshments were served buffet style from a large table laid with a lace cloth and centered by a pink and blue mixed floral bouquet.  Mrs. W.E. Adkisson, mother of the honored guest, and Mrs. Charles Vogel, an aunt of Miss Adkisson, presided at the serving table.

Bishop Reads Service at St. Paul's Church
Standing before the altar of St. Paul's Episcopal church which was arranged with white carnations and banked with baskets of white gladiolus, blue
delphiniums and pink and blue larkspur, Miss Verona Adkisson yesterday was united in marriage with W. Stanley Coates Jr.  The 3 o'clock candlelight ceremony was performed by Bishop Benjamin Dagwell of Portland of the
Western diocese, assisted by Rev. E. Ernest Taylor.
   The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Adkisson of The Dalles while the groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Coates of Tillamook.
   Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attractive in a white mousseline crepe gown with lace inserts.  Her double circular veil of tulle
and lace was caught with orange blossoms.  She carried a shower bouquet of baby finch roses, white snapdragons and gysophila, with cascading white streamers.
   Only attendant for the bride was her sister, Miss Verla  Adkisson, whose dress was of pink lace.  Her old-fashioned bouquet was of sweet peas and roses.  Joseph Ross, of Portland acted as best man, with Loren and Eugene Adkisson, brothers of the bride as ushers.
   Miss Dorothy Lu Simonsen sang "I Love You Truly" and "Because" preceding the ceremony, accompanied at the organ by Miss Ruth Cramer, who also played the wedding marches.
   Mrs. Adkisson chose for her daughter's wedding a navy blue redingote with white accessories.  Mrs. Coates, the groom's mother, also selected a navy blue ensemble with matching accessories.  Both wore corsages of white
gladiolus and pink rosebuds.
   Remington hall was the scene of the wedding reception during which Miss Simonsen and Miss Cramer served.  Mrs. Ellwood Adkisson cut the bride's cake and Mrs. Ray Scott of Corvallis, the groom's sister, cut the ices. Assisting about the rooms were Mrs. A.B. Adkisson of Milton-
Freewater, Mrs. Walter Morast of The Dalles and Mrs. Melvin Larsen of Toppenish.  The serving table, centered by the bride's cake, was  decorated in pink and white color scheme.
   For traveling, the bride was attired in a light blue crepe dress, navy blue coat and dusty rose accessessories.  Following the wedding trip, Mr.
and Mrs. Coats will reside temporarily at Corvallis.  Mr. Coates is a reserve second lieutenant in the U.S. army.
