| Ancestor Name: John Robert THOMPSON
Settlement Area: The Dalles, Juniper
Flat
Facts and Info: In 1900 John Robert
and his family, (sister Anna, brother Eddy, and baby sister Nellie) went
over the old trail-mountains to Wapinitia where they stayed until fall.
John Robert took a job herding sheep for a man named Gable.
He herded sheep at Mutton Mountain, also the Blue Mountains. Then John
Robert took jobs with different farmers until he and his father (John Thompson
married to Miranda JaneWhitcomb) found an
800 acre place that they homesteaded. The family spent the winter with
a man named Bud Smith. In the spring they
found a place.
Soon after this they moved
to their home place which was located on the rim rocks, on the Deschutes
River. This part of the country was Juniper Flat. On this big place they
raised grain, wheat, oats, barley, corn and raised as many as 300 hogs
to sell in the fall, also a large number of poultry, chickens, turkeys,
geese and ducks, and five head of cows was the number they kept at the
time.
During the summer the headers
would be at this place from two to three weeks, same with the thrasher.
Then the job was hauling it to market which was at Dufur or The Dalles.
John Robert and Dora May Davidson
were married in The Dalles, same place as his parents. They (John
and Dora) built a little house of their own on this ranch and lived there
for some time, then went to Portland working on different jobs, then again
moved, to Garden Homes where they stayed until moving to the Alfalfa, Bend
country....This was taken from the OLD FAMILY BIBLE by Nellie Thompson-Reed
in the year 1962.
I am looking for any information
on John Thompson, Miranda Jane (Whitcomb) John Robert Thompson and Dora
May (Davidson). |
